By far the most exciting items offered this Spring are the double-flowered Oriental Lily varieties, of which we have several. These are every bit as easy to grow, as large-flowered, and as fragrant as the typical Oriental lily when grown in zones 5-9 outdoors. Our prices are surprisingly low for these rare novelties, and we expect to sell out early. Our typical offerings of fragrant Oriental lilies remain popular, such as Sumatra, Tiger Woods, Tiger Edition, Rio Negro, Lake Carey, Casa Blanca and Stargazer.
Be sure to check out our Bulb-Zilla tm page, where we offer whopping bulbs, at least 24 cm. in circumference and often a good deal larger The early bird gets the biggest bulbs in this category until stock is depleted. There are only a certain number of them available in our crop each year. They are virtually unobtainable in commercial channels elsewhere, because the growers use these to propagate new bulbs instead of bearing the high cost of shipping them to retailers. The advantage of the larger bulbs is that they produce many more flowers the first year. Big bulbs tend to become even bigger, the longer they remain in your garden. Plus they will split into more bulbs, giving rise to a nice colongy or clump of bulbs in a short time.
Do you struggle with harsh climate conditions? Where weather patterns run to extremes of hot, cold, dry, wet, we highly recommend the fabulous and extra hardy O.T. (Orienpet) Liliies. Our customers have had great success growing these in regions that are considered borderline for Oriental Lilies, such as the Midwest, East Coast, South, Southwest, Alaska, and other challenging climate regions. Although rugged and hardy, these lilies have the exotic appearance, dramatic size, and fragrance of the Oriental lily. They are a cross between the Oriental type and the Trumpet type, so they are also quite tall, typically. Yoiu may have seen this group listed in certain catalogs under the proprietary name “Lily Trees”, which is a misnomer, but yet descriptive of the height and girth of the stems
Fine Fragrant Trumpet Lilies are available in the BULB-ZILLA section, with expected size of 26-30 cm in circumference.
POT LILIES: We offer a section of dwarf or very short varieties of lilies, bred for container or low border culture. Our selections include both Oriental and Asiatic types for full coverage of the season.
Take note of our line of SPECIES LILIES, which are wild lilies, suited to domestication, including L. Tigrinum (Asian Tiger Lily) , Regale, Leichtlinii, Cernuum, Nepalense, Martagon.,and Speciosum (Rubrum Lily)), to name a few.
Fine ORIENTAL POPPIES are offered early in the shipping season. Purchase and plant early for best results. We include a couple of Sandy Worth’s “Super Poppies”, with improved foliage and blooming characterestics, and which are very difficult to obtain this side of the Atlantic.
Consider our interesting line of Daylilies and Peonies, including TREE PEONIES. The Tree Peonies must be planted before the weather warms up to a great degree.
Don’t overlook our Sustainable Gardening Products We offer these as solutions to some common growing challenges, and use them in our own growing operation, to help in slug/snail control, insect control, precision watering, and enhanced growth results. In particular our Praying Mantis egge cases are popular for natural pest control.
