A pineapple lily of intermediate size, 'Princess Bride' delights with numerous stalks of pink and cream flowers. The first color to show is a citron yellow, before turning a soft pink and yellow blend. Acute leaves top the stems, reminiscent of a pineapple. The habit is prostrate, comprised of arching leaves that emerge burgundy before turning a deep green in summer.

Eucomis may appear exotic, but they are actually very easy to grow. Simply plant the bulbs in spring after all danger of frost has passed. Make sure the soil temperature is 65 degrees or warmer, as eucomis bulbs will not grow in cold soil.
In northern zones, eucomis grow best in full sun. In areas where the sun is more intense, however, the plants benefit from some shade during the hottest part of the day. They are generally hardy down to about 20°F. In colder areas they may be grown as annuals, or the bulbs can be dug up and stored indoors in the winter for replanting the following spring.
Grow Eucomis in loose, well-drained soil. Heavy or soggy soil may cause the bulbs to rot. At the start of the growing season, it's best to keep the soil barely moist. Once the plant has several leaves, start watering consistently, keeping the soil relatively moist until after flowering.
Feed with a dose of liquid fertilizer in early spring and occasionally add a weak tomato feed when watering in summer. They may require supporting. In late autumn, apply a thick mulch of bark over the plant. Old leaves and flower stems should be removed only once they turn yellow.

We begin shipping our bulbs in mid-February through Spring. Despite what you may have heard, Spring planting of bulbs is not a bad thing, and in fact, there are many advantages to planting in Spring. Visit our Spring Planting page to learn more. Upon arriving, your bulbs and most of your perennials may show signs of growth such as green leaves and sprouts - this is okay and transportation during this time should not harm the plants.
All bulbs and perennials should be planted in your garden as soon as possible to ensure the best success. If you must delay planting, open the bags to permit air circulation and place them out of direct sunlight in a cool, well-ventilated room. Do not place the bulbs where they can freeze. If you have the space, storing the bulbs in the refrigerator is another excellent way to “hold them” prior to planting. If you choose this method of storing your bulbs, be sure not to store fruit with them, as this is detrimental to bulbs.
Plant outdoors when the ground is no longer frozen and the conditions have improved for your zone.
